Hell is a City

(1960, Stanley Baker, Donald Pleasance, John Crawford)

David Beilby remembers this as a personal favourite. “Filmed around 1957 in Manchester there are quite a few city centre scenes with buses visible and a few night shots of Stanley Baker boarding a Burlingham-bodied Leyland Titan PD2. There's even some very distant Oldham buses.” Bob Wingrove has provided these screen captures: some of the sightings really are distant but serve as a reminder of the distinctive liveries and even shapes of yesteryear. You'll have to click to enlarge this shot to glimpse a Rochdale Corporation 'decker!
